Andy Diggle has written such comics as The Losers, Captain America: Living Legend, Thief of Thieves, and lots of more. now he returns to Uncanny at Dynamite with Uncanny season 2! Westfield’s Roger Ash contacted Diggle to learn more.

Westfield: For new readers, what must they know going into Uncanny season 2?

Andy Diggle: Dominic Weaver is a professional thief, con-man and agent-for-hire who was born blessed with a special ability. He can steal an unwitting victim’s special knowledge or know-how for a short period of time, and use it to carry out whatever mission he’s set himself. but he’s always racing against the ticking clock; when the ability fades, the skill is lost, and he goes back to being a regular schmuck like the rest of us.

Weaver thought he was unique, but when he was hired by a mysterious arms dealer named Deacon Styles, he discovered there were lots of a lot more people out there with uncanny abilities. He was partnered up with Maggie Ford, a mercenary with inhuman healing abilities, and together they tried to hijack a data courier working for a shadowy organization called Cadre. things went horribly wrong, leaving Weaver and Ford on the run in Belize.

Westfield: What can readers look forward to in season 2 and who are some of the characters we’ll meet?

Diggle: We’ll get to learn a lot more about Morgan Styles, who helped them escape from Cadre. He clues them in as to the truth about his brother Deacon. We’ll also get to see a lot more of Weaver’s past – what made him the man he is today, including secrets that even he doesn’t know yet.

Westfield: What is there about Dominic Weaver that appeals to you as a writer?

Diggle: I’m enjoying undermining the cliché of the “straight white male hard guy.” He was presented as that up front – cool, confident, capable – but as the series has progressed, we’ve revealed that’s really just a identity he developed for himself. We’re gradually stripping away his layers of bullshit to reveal the flawed, vulnerable, damaged kid hiding underneath the armor. In lots of ways, Maggie is far a lot more capable than Weaver.

Westfield: You’re once again teaming with artist Aaron Campbell. how do you two work together on Uncanny?

Diggle: We live on opposite sides of the Atlantic and I’m sad to say we’ve never met, but we correspond by email. I’m hoping we’ll finally get to meet up an a comic con sometime. I owe him a beer. When I send in the scripts, I can happily depend on him to make me look good.
