Black Panther Trailer released

Last night, marvel Studios released the first trailer for the upcoming Black Panther film starring Chadwick Boseman. It’s framed as a conversation between Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue (seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross (previously seen in Captain America: Civil war and familiar to fans from Christopher Priest’s epic run on the Black Panther comic).

I like the way they’re engaging the contradiction of Wakanda head-on: outsiders think it’s a third-world country, but it’s really a secretive modern civilization. The techno-warrior method makes for some cool costumes as well as suiting the cultural contradictions of today.

And we get to see plenty of Dora Milaje, the warrior women who safeguard the king, one of whom is played by Lupita Nyong’o. Michael B. Jordan is antagonist Erik Killmonger, while Angela Bassett is Ramonda, T’Challa’s mother. Black Panther will be released February 16, 2018.
